Skip the Line at Ephesus: What Priority Entry Really Covers

Skip the line, fast pass, priority entrance: whatever the name, on our tours at Ephesus it means one thing. Your tickets are bought before you reach the gate, so the ticket window is simply not part of your morning. Gezginol, the licensed agency behind Ephesus Tours by Locals (TÜRSAB No. 15746), holds a priority pass and buys the tickets in advance at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's own price. It adds nothing to that price, and you pay the ticket cost separately from the tour.

How does skip-the-line entry work at Ephesus?

At Ephesus the tickets are the same for everyone: they are sold at the windows of both entrances and online, and every one is scanned at the turnstiles. What changes on a private tour is who stands at the window, and when. We do it for you, before you arrive:

1. You send your plan. The tour, the date, how many of you and where to pick you up, through the booking form or by email. A licensed local guide replies within 24 hours with the current official prices for every site on your route.
2. We buy the tickets in advance at exactly the price the Ministry charges at the gate, and we choose the cheaper option when a combined Ephesus and Terrace Houses ticket is on sale.
3. Your guide meets you at your hotel, the airport or the Kusadasi cruise port with a sign showing your name, and the tickets are already in hand.
4. At the gate you walk past the ticket window to the turnstiles, where every ticket is scanned, and through the entrance check that every visitor passes.
5. You pay the ticket cost separately from the tour price, and it is exactly the gate price. Priority entrance itself costs nothing extra: it is part of every tour we run.

The same routine runs at every ticketed site of the day: the Terrace Houses inside Ephesus, the Ephesus Archaeological Museum and the Basilica of St John in Selcuk. What skip-the-line entry does not skip

It is worth being exact here, because "skip the line" can sound like more than it is. We skip the ticket queue, not the security check. Everything below is the same for every visitor, our guests included:

• The security check at the entrance. Everyone passes through it, with or without a guide.
• The turnstiles. Every ticket is scanned on the way in, including e-tickets and Museum Passes.
• The Terrace Houses turnstile. The covered Roman villas inside the site have their own turnstile and their own ticket; we buy that one in advance too.
• The crowd at the Library of Celsus. On a big port day the square in front of the library fills in the late morning, when groups walking down Curetes Street meet visitors coming up from the lower gate. Only timing helps there: an upper-gate start close to the 08:00 opening, or a visit after three in the afternoon.
• The site's capacity and opening hours. No agency can override either one.
• The road from the port. Kusadasi cruise port is 18–20 km from the upper gate: 20–30 minutes by car, and up to 45 when several large ships arrive together.

The ticket line is still the one worth skipping. On cruise mornings it forms at the lower (harbor) gate, because that is where the coaches park. How the minutes add up in a private day

Here is where the time goes on a typical private morning from the cruise port. The row that matters on this page is the second one.

Nobody can promise how long the ticket line will be on a given morning, so we leave it out of the plan altogether. Every minute it would have taken goes to the ancient city instead, or to the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis or a longer lunch. What does skip-the-line entry cost?

Nothing on top of the ticket. Priority entrance is included in every tour we run, and the tickets cost exactly what the Ministry of Culture and Tourism charges at the window: €40 per adult for Ephesus and €15 for the Terrace Houses, according to the Ministry's price list when we checked it on 28 September 2026. Children aged 7 and under enter free. The ticket cost is always paid separately from the tour price.

Can you skip the line at Ephesus on your own?

Yes, and you do not need a tour for it. The Ministry's own site, muze.gov.tr, sells e-tickets and Museum Passes, and either one is scanned at the turnstiles of whichever gate you arrive at. Two things to know before you rely on it:

• No pass covers the Terrace Houses. They always need their own €15 ticket, sold at the windows of both gates.
• The two ticket offices keep different hours. Both open at 08:00; in the summer season the upper-gate office closes at 18:00, while the lower one sells until about 18:45 (muze.gov.tr, checked 28 September 2026). A late-afternoon visit therefore starts at the bottom.
