Carnival Cruise Line in Kusadasi: Ephesus with Children and Teens

Carnival is a rare visitor to Kusadasi: the schedules show just two Carnival calls between late September 2026 and September 2027. If one is yours and you are traveling with children, here are the call, the kit to pack and the family tour that fits your hours.

How often does Carnival call at Kusadasi?

Not often. Ege Port handled 617 cruise calls in 2025, yet only two Carnival visits appear on the schedules for the coming twelve months. These are the two:

Will our Carnival Sunshine stop be Kusadasi or Izmir?

Check your own Carnival itinerary before you plan. The schedule websites list Carnival Sunshine at Kusadasi on 6 September 2027, but Carnival’s own itinerary page for a 10-day Greek Isles, Turkey and Italy sailing of Carnival Sunshine from Civitavecchia names the Turkish stop “Izmir (Ephesus)”. Carnival lists its Kusadasi excursions under “Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey”, so the two names are easy to confuse.

If your booking shows Kusadasi, everything below applies. If it shows Izmir, the day starts from a different port, and our Izmir to Ephesus private tour is the one to look at: 8–9 hours door to door, with pickup at the cruise terminal in Izmir.

What will our kids actually enjoy at Ephesus?

More than most parents expect, if the day is told as a story. Children remember the Great Theater, where gladiators once fought and a crowd rioted against Saint Paul. They remember the cats of Ephesus, who nap on the marble as if they owned it; the stone covers along Curetes Street that lead down into the city’s ancient sewer; and Hercules carved on his gate, wearing the skin of the lion no blade could cut.

Inside the Terrace Houses, walkways and stairs run above painted Roman living rooms and mosaic floors, which makes the separate ticket (EUR 15, about 45 minutes more) easy to justify for a curious child. Entry to the ancient city is EUR 40 per adult in 2026 and free for children aged 7 and under.

Younger children do well on our Ephesus Tour for Children (4–6 hours, flexible): a shorter route told for young imaginations, then a pottery course where small hands shape clay on the wheel. Teenagers want drama more than detail, so the Ephesus Tour for Teens (6–7 hours, flexible) tells the city through its riots and gladiators and trades the afternoon for a jeep safari, quad bikes, a horse safari or a water park. Activity operators set their own minimum ages, and we confirm them for your date.

What should a family pack for the heat, the marble and the walk?

• Shoes with real grip for every family member. The old marble has been polished smooth by centuries of feet and turns slippery.
• Water, bought before you go in. The site has no drinking fountains and only one small stand, near the Library of Celsus.
• Hats and sunscreen. Most of the route lies in the open, with little shade between the monuments.
• A baby carrier rather than a stroller for the smallest travelers. Strollers work only partly on the bumpy marble streets.
• Snacks and spare clothes can stay in the private car, which meets you at the lower gate.

The walk itself is about 1.5 km, mostly downhill from the Upper Gate to the Harbor gate, and takes 2–3 hours at a family pace. Starting at the top means small legs have no climb back up: the car collects you at the bottom, and the Upper Gate opens at 08:00 every day.

Which family tour fits a Carnival day in port?

We plan the day backward from the all-aboard time, not from the departure time on the schedules. You will find it in your ship’s daily program or the HUB App; send it to us once you have it, together with the children’s ages.

The Treasures of Ephesus tour is the compact option for families who want the Library of Celsus, the Great Theater and the Temple of Artemis without a long day. With a 07:00 arrival, Carnival Legend guests can be among the first through the gate; on the later Sunshine call, expect more company at the Library of Celsus and let the guide steer the route around it.

Where does our Carnival ship dock, and where do we meet the guide?

At Ege Port, Camikebir Mahallesi, Mahmut Esat Bozkurt Caddesi No. 20, on the seafront of the town itself, so there is no tender boat to manage with children. Its two finger piers hold eight berths in pairs, each pair with a length limit, and the port allocates them daily. Carnival Legend (294 m) and Carnival Sunshine (about 272 m) are both too long for berths 3–4, which stop at 253 m, but fit berths 1–2 (up to 300 m), 5–6 (up to 331 m) and 7–8 (up to 387 m).

Wherever the port berths your ship, the way out is the same: walk the length of the pier and cross the terminal hall. Keep the children close at the exit and look for the sign with your family name. The meeting-point section of our shore excursion page shows the walk in photos.

Is Carnival’s own Ephesus excursion the easier choice for a family?

Sometimes, yes. Carnival sells a wide range here, from the Easy Ephesus Panoramic Drive (3.5 hours) and Terrace House & Ancient Ephesus to Best of Ephesus (7 hours) and the Ephesus & Sirince Village Visit (see Carnival’s Kusadasi excursion list). Every tour carries an activity level from Easy to Extreme, infants aged 3 and under on a parent’s lap ride free on most of them, and guests under 18 need an adult with them. The strongest reason to book with the ship is simple: if one of Carnival’s own excursions runs late, the ship waits for it.

A private day suits families who want to set their own rhythm: stop when a child needs a break, linger with the cats, skip the monument nobody cares about. A licensed guide and a car belong to your family alone, and entry is skip-the-line: we purchase the tickets ahead of time at exactly the price the Ministry charges at the gate, add nothing on top, and you settle them apart from the tour.
