Windstar in Kusadasi: A 07:00 Arrival and the Evening in Ephesus Dinner

Windstar’s small ships keep a long day at Kusadasi: most arrive early in the morning and stay into the evening, and on select voyages the night belongs to Windstar’s own dinner among the ruins of Ephesus. For a Windstar guest the question is less whether to see Ephesus than which part of it to see, and when.

What is Windstar’s Evening in Ephesus?

It is one of Windstar’s Destination Discovery Events: a complimentary, after-hours evening in the ancient city, exclusive to Windstar guests on select voyages. Windstar’s voyage pages describe a five-course dinner with white-glove service under the stars and music from a trio of the Aegean Chamber Orchestra. One page places it against the backdrop of the Odeon; another has the concert echoing off the walls of the Library of Celsus.

The evening is Windstar’s event, not ours, and not every sailing includes it. Look for it on your own voyage page or in your booking before you plan the day around it. Windstar is adding four new Destination Discovery Events in 2027 and says Evening in Ephesus remains part of the program (Windstar’s announcement). The line also notes that the evening is scheduled so guests can enjoy another excursion earlier in the day.

What does daylight show you that the dinner cannot?

The evening is an after-hours dinner in one setting inside the city: a special night, but not a walk through the site. Daylight is when you can see the rest. Choose one of two plans:

• The whole city by day. Enter at the Upper Gate and walk the full route downhill: Curetes Street, the Terrace Houses under their protective roof, the Library of Celsus in morning light and the Great Theater. You come back after dark already knowing the stories behind the stones.
• The places outside the city. If the ruins by night are enough for you, spend the day beyond the walls: the House of the Virgin Mary in the hills, the single standing column of the Temple of Artemis, and lunch in the village of Sirince.

For the first plan, our Treasures of Ephesus tour takes 3 hours (ask us to add the Terrace Houses, which need about three quarters of an hour), and the Best of Ephesus tour (4–5 hours) adds the House of the Virgin Mary and the Temple of Artemis. For the second, the Create Your Own tour lets you choose the stops. The Ephesus and Village Life tour (6–7 hours) does a little of both: the ancient city in the morning, Sirince in the afternoon.

How does a 07:00 arrival shape the morning?

The early hour is the asset. Work back from the all-aboard time printed in the ship’s daily program, and the day runs something like this:

1. 07:00. Wind Surf is alongside (18 of her 21 calls start then, and all three of Wind Star’s). Walk the pier to the terminal exit, where your guide waits with a name sign.
2. Around 08:00. After a 20–30 minute drive you can be at the Upper Gate close to its opening, ahead of the busier late-morning hours.
3. The morning walk. Two to three hours down to the Harbor Gate, about 1.5 km; adding the Terrace Houses takes roughly 45 minutes more.
4. Midday. Back aboard to rest, or on to the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis or Sirince.
5. Evening. Windstar’s, if your voyage includes the dinner. If not, Kusadasi’s old town and harbor start right outside the terminal.

Star Legend keeps later hours, arriving at 08:00, 09:00 or 10:00. On her calls the ancient city falls in the busier late morning, so the outside-the-walls plan, or an afternoon walk once the morning groups thin out, may suit you better. Either way you skip the ticket line: we purchase the tickets beforehand at the Ministry’s gate price (€40 for Ephesus and €15 for the Terrace Houses in 2026), charge no mark-up on them, and you pay for them apart from the tour.

When are Windstar ships in Kusadasi?

Counted from cruisetimetables.com and CruiseMapper on 28 September 2026, Windstar has 37 calls listed. On two days, 6 May and 25 September 2027, Star Legend and Wind Surf are in port together.

Two calls are listed without times: Wind Spirit on 3 October 2026 and Wind Surf on Monday 27 September 2027. Where the schedules name Wind Surf’s voyage, it is usually a 7-night Treasures of the Greek Isles round trip from Piraeus (on 15 July 2027 the schedules list a James Beard Foundation edition and a 14-night Star Collector voyage). Star Legend’s calls include the 8-night Aegean Sea Odyssey via the Corinth Canal, and Windstar’s own page for that voyage lists Kusadasi on 14 April 2027 with the same 09:00 arrival as the schedules.

Windstar’s day excursions or a private guide?

Windstar’s regular shore excursions are sold separately from the fare; the Destination Discovery Events are the complimentary exception on the voyages that include them. Taking the ship’s own excursion brings one clear benefit: the ship will wait for a Windstar tour that is running late. A private day suits guests who want the morning shaped around them: your own licensed guide and car, the Upper Gate at opening, and time for every question. Your guide can lead the day in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Italian or German.

Which berth will your Windstar ship use?

Any of them. The smallest berth limit at Ege Port, 253 m for berths 3–4, is well above the 187 m of Wind Surf, the longest Windstar ship here, so every Windstar ship fits every berth. The port assigns them day by day, and all of them funnel into the one terminal exit on the town side.
