Tour overview

What makes this tour special

Some days you want the story without the staircase. The Ephesus Panoramic Tour was built for exactly that: a private, air-conditioned coach carries you between the great landmarks of the Ephesus valley, your licensed local guide narrates the whole way, and the walking is reduced to a few easy, level strolls where it genuinely rewards you. It is the gentlest way to meet Ephesus — and the simplest, because everything is included in the price you are quoted.

That is the part worth repeating, because it is unusual. Every entrance fee on this itinerary is covered. Your lunch is covered. The coach, the driver, the fuel, the parking and your guide are covered. Cruise passengers are used to a day of small payments — tickets here, lunch there, a tip for the driver — and this tour removes all of it. You will not be asked for money at a single stop. You will not queue at one either: nothing on this route has a ticket booth, so while other groups are still shuffling towards a turnstile, you are already at the viewpoint.

We begin at the Kusadasi cruise port and climb into the pine hills to the great statue of the Virgin Mary, a superb photo stop with the upper gate of Ephesus laid out below you. Then the panoramic drive itself: past the upper entrance of the ancient city, with the Odeon, the cistern and the ruins of the upper quarter unrolling beside your window as your guide points out what each one was. Next the Basilica of Saint John on Ayasuluk Hill, where we stop at the gate for photographs and the full story of the apostle buried beneath it. Then the Temple of Artemis — where you step out and walk the site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — and, if you wish, the beautiful fourteenth-century Isa Bey Mosque in Selcuk. The day closes with lunch and a local artisan visit, where traditional Turkish handcrafts are made by hand while you eat.

Step by step

Your day, hour by hour

  1. Kusadasi cruise port pickup

Your guide meets you with a name sign at the terminal and your private air-conditioned coach is waiting. From this moment everything is already paid for.

  2. The Virgin Mary statue & Ephesus viewpoint

A short climb into the pines to the great statue of the Virgin Mary. We step out for photographs, with the upper gate of Ephesus and the whole valley spread out beneath you.

  3. Panoramic drive past the upper city

The heart of the tour: we drive the road along the upper entrance of Ephesus while your guide points out the Odeon, the great cistern and the ruins of the upper quarter through your window.

  4. Basilica of Saint John

We stop at the gate of the basilica on Ayasuluk Hill for photographs and the story of the apostle said to be buried beneath it, with the fortress rising behind.

  5. Temple of Artemis — included

Out of the coach and onto the site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Level ground, easy walking, and the entrance is already covered by your price.

  6. Isa Bey Mosque (optional)

If you wish, the serene 1375 mosque in Selcuk, with columns salvaged from Ephesus itself. Entry is free and, like everything else today, included.

  7. Lunch & local artisan visit — included

The day closes at a local artisan centre where lunch is served: whatever is local and whatever is fresh, cooked by local chefs and cooks, while masters of traditional Turkish handcrafts work around you. Your lunch is already paid for.

  8. At the gangway on time — guaranteed

We watch the clock all day so you never have to. As on every tour we run, you are back at your ship with a comfortable buffer — and no guest of ours has ever missed a sailing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the entrance fees really included?

Yes — genuinely all of them. Every site on this itinerary is covered by the price we quote you, including the Temple of Artemis. There is no ticket booth where you will be asked to pay, and no optional extra that quietly costs money on the day.

Will we have to wait in any queues?

No. Every stop on this route is an open site or a viewpoint rather than a ticketed gate, so there is nothing to line up for. On a busy cruise day that can save you a great deal of standing around — it is one of the quiet advantages of seeing Ephesus panoramically.

Is lunch included too?

It is. Lunch is served at a local artisan centre and is part of your price — whatever is local and whatever is fresh, cooked by local chefs and cooks. Only personal drinks are separate.

How much walking is there?

Very little. The tour is designed to be seen mostly from the coach, with short, level strolls at the Virgin Mary statue, the Basilica of Saint John gate, the Temple of Artemis and the mosque. It is our easiest itinerary for guests with limited mobility.

Do we go inside the ancient city of Ephesus?

No — and that is deliberate. This tour views the ancient city panoramically from the road, which is what keeps it gentle and step-free. If you want to walk the marble streets, the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre, choose our Best of Ephesus or Kusadasi shore excursion instead and we will gladly advise.

Will we be back at the ship on time?

Always. The itinerary sits close to the port, we build in a generous buffer, and in all our years of shore excursions no guest of ours has ever watched their ship leave without them.
