Oceania Cruises in Kusadasi: Ephesus and a Taste of Turkey in One Call

Oceania Cruises has built its name on food, and its guests often come ashore hungry for more than ruins. At Kusadasi the calls are compact, 7 to 10 hours, so Ephesus and a proper Turkish meal work best when they are planned as one day rather than as two separate ideas.

Can you see Ephesus and eat well on one Oceania call?

Yes, as long as the food is part of the route rather than an afterthought. Three of our tours are built that way, and each is described here exactly as it runs:

• Ephesus Interrupted, about 4 hours. You enter the ancient city by the lower gate, walk up Harbor Street and Marble Street to the Library of Celsus and stop, on purpose, at the Temple of Hadrian. Then comes lunch, included: a guided street-food walk in Selcuk with kofte in bread, pressed Turkish toast and kokorec for the brave.
• Village Breakfast and Ephesus, 6–7 hours. The day opens at a village-style breakfast table, about an hour and a half of warm bread, cheeses, olives, honey and endless tea, followed by the full guided walk of Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis, with the House of the Virgin Mary if you wish. The breakfast is included.
• The Gangway Gourmet, 3–4 hours on foot from the port exit, in the morning or the afternoon. Six tastings in Kusadasi itself, all included: lentil soup, simit with tulum cheese, cig kofte, stuffed mussels, a pistachio-versus-walnut baklava showdown and Turkish delight. With no drive at all, it pairs easily with a short Ephesus tour on the same call.

The village in the photo at the top of this page is Sirince, in the hills near Ephesus. Our Ephesus and Village Life tour (6–7 hours) ends there, with a long village lunch and tastings of the fruit wines and olive oils its producers make. It fits the same calls as the village breakfast.

Which Oceania calls are listed for 2027?

Counted from the Kusadasi schedules on cruisetimetables.com and CruiseMapper, checked 28 September 2026. No Oceania call is listed for the rest of 2026, and five of the six 2027 calls appear on CruiseMapper only. The 30 July call is also on cruisetimetables.com, on two voyages that end in Venice: the 10-night Aegean & Adriatic Coasts from Istanbul and the 19-night Rome, Ruins & Gondola Rides from Rome. Which food day fits your hours in port?

Schedule sites show when the ship sails, but the time that matters is the all-aboard time, which comes earlier. Oceania’s daily newsletter, Currents, is delivered to your stateroom; check the all-aboard time on board and send it to us with your ship and date, and we plan the day backward from it. The drive to Ephesus takes 20–30 minutes each way, and up to 45 on the busiest port days.

The short Ephesus morning is our Treasures of Ephesus tour (3 hours). Every Oceania call on the list falls in the summer season, when Ephesus opens at 08:00 and the lower gate stays open until about 19:00, so on a 07:00 arrival you reach the gate soon after it opens. Tickets cost EUR 40 per adult in 2026, plus EUR 15 for the Terrace Houses, and children aged 7 and under enter free. We buy them ahead at the Ministry’s gate price with no mark-up, and they are paid separately from the tour (Ephesus entrance fees).

Why does the schedule say “Oceania Nautica-Aurelia”?

Because the ship is changing her name. On 22 April 2026 Oceania announced that Oceania Nautica will be fully redesigned and relaunched as Oceania Aurelia in late 2027, and the line already sells Aurelia’s inaugural voyages. The two June 2027 calls at Kusadasi come before that relaunch, so they are made by the ship now called Nautica; schedule sites simply print both names. Whichever name your booking shows, send it to us as it is.

Which berth will an Oceania ship use?

Any of them. Oceania Sirena and Oceania Nautica are sister ships of 181 m, and Oceania Vista is 241 m. The shortest berths at Ege Port, 3–4, take ships up to 253 m, and the others go up to 300 m (1–2), 331 m (5–6) and 387 m (7–8), so all three ships fit everywhere. The port assigns berths day by day, and every pier leads to the same terminal exit where the pier meets the town. What does Oceania offer ashore at Kusadasi?

Oceania lists this stop as “Ephesus (Kusadasi), Turkey” and runs a long list of its own excursions from it (Oceania’s Kusadasi excursions). Food lovers will find A Meal to Remember (about 4 hours) and Wines & Winemaking Customs (about 5 hours); history lovers, Antique Ephesus (about 2.5 hours) and Three Ancient Cities: Priene, Miletus & Didyma (about 7 hours).
